So David Sedaris was great last night... everything he read was new material to me, including an excerpt from his upcoming new book. At one point, he read some diary entries, including an entry from earlier this week in which he discovered Craisins. This was quite funny, since I was there with my sister and two friends of hers from work... her ad agency does all of Ocean Spray's online stuff, including a major campaign for Craisins! Since Sedaris always makes a point of greeting his readers in the lobby after the show for book signings (or just to chat), we devised a plan. Two of us would wait in line, while the other two of us ran to the store to get some bags of Craisins, then return to meet up with the line. The result was a great conversation with one of my favorite writers that started with, "Can you sign our Craisins?"

After that, I made a quick stop at "My So Called 90's Night" to wish [info]phatmike happy birthday and meet a few [info]b0st0n peeps.

This morning I was down on the Cape for drill weekend at 7:30... my first training item of the day was "Small Arms Training," where I was re-acquainted with the M16A2 Semiautomatic Rifle. I have only ever held one once before, back in basic training... but it's time for me to re-train and re-qualify with it. We spent the morning dissembling and reassembling it, and reviewing safety and troubleshooting fundamentals. We would have gone on to the range to fire them, but what's left of Hurricane Noel has been gusting all over the place... so that had to be postponed.

Speaking of the weather... by the time I got done with work for the day, it was pouring so hard that just getting 100 feet from the clinic to my car left me quite wet, and lugging my bag and backpack from my car to the dorm left me totally soaked. After some laundry, a short nap, and whining to [info]99catsaway about the weather on the phone, a few of us headed over to the on base bar for some free food and drinks on account of the retirement party for one of our group commanders.

After that, I had a craving for ice cream... and the storm seemed to be done with our part of the world... so I hit up [info]queen_of_crazy for a suggestion of where to get my fix. She directed me to Friendly's, but they were closed on account of the power outage. Fortunately, the 99 Restaurant nearby was just re-opening as the power came back... and my friends and I got our sundae on!

Okey... it's about time for me to get to bed so I can be ready to rock and roll tomorrow. I'll be giving glu shots (actually FluMist - it's a nasal spray vaccine!) all day, then heading up to [info]scullyseviltwin and [info]cutting_rm_flr's place to watch the game in the evening.

Whew... that's a lot of writing. I've had a busy 24 hours!

"Glu shots", eh? Sounds like a sticky situation.
